Such as online poker apps?

The app review process is famously arbitrary, but there are too many apps -- like Google Voice that were rejected because they didn't align with Apple's goals. The review process is both arbitrary and badly timed with the amount of work required to get to the point of submitting.

Sure, if you've got an app that has a high probability of getting accepted it's probably fine. But it sucks for apps that you can't totally be sure Apple's reviewers will be happy with. And with online poker in particular, the impression that there is shaky legal ground could easily be more than enough basis for a reviewer to say "NO".

I don't think it is an accident there isn't an online poker app for the iphone out yet.

"There’s just a few too many quirks to the Apple review process that either a) make particular kinds of apps (like online poker apps) difficult or impossible to get accepted..."
